Floorcloth Facts

What are Floorcloths?

Floorcloths are floor coverings made of heavyweight canvas which have been painted and then coated several times with a polyurethane sealer. They are used in place of carpeting, and add a unique flair to your home.

History of Floorcloths

Floorcloths have been around for hundreds of years. The first American settlers did not have carpets available to them, so they used what resources they did have. Canvas from worn sails of their ships was readily available, and they soon started laying pieces on their dirt floors. Eventually they painted or used stencils to decorate the canvases with patterns and color. They became known as "oyl cloths", or floorcloths.

Advantages of Floorcloths

Stain-proof -- easy to clean

Durable -- holds up to heavy traffic

Hypoallergenic -- does not cause allergies or respiratory problems
